Louise Jennison and Gracia Haby, both from Melbourne, Australia with
degrees in fine art, started a small business as a tiny gardening and
odd job service in order to support their obsession with creating artists'
books. After studying at the Centro del bel Libro in Ascona, Switzerland
in 2002, they adapted an exposed spine and square knot binding technique
which was all they needed to spark their creativity and launch the business
of their dreams. In 2003, they switched gears from cultivating blooms
to creatively mixing floral textiles to form hammer & daisy,
a business set out to create gorgeous journals, pouches and pencil cases.
Their line of one of a kind handmade goodies has been growing ever since,
with much attention from the Australian press, including Vogue magazine.
All items are available in their online store and best of all, each
is handmade by either Louise or Gracia in fabulous color combinations
using vintage textiles, from beautiful tablecloths and embroidered doilies
to a 1950's Hungarian tea towels with intriguing florals in vivid colors.
Psst: Both ladies also maintain their very own blogspace, blogs that
I'm sure you'll enjoy peeking in on - Louise with elsewhere and high
up in the trees with Gracia.
