UNTITLED
(LOVE AFFAIR)
Louise Jennison
Studio 1, 200 Gertrude Street, Fitzroy, Melbourne
Louise Jennison's untitled (love affair) of 1998 is the culmination
of her two year studio residency at 200 Gertrude street. Throughout
this time she has developed numerous aspects of her artistic expression,
and this latest work defines her current interests. She opens her studio
to the public, allowing her personal space to be critically examined
and experienced by perfect strangers. All tools of her production, usually
scattered about the studio have been removed. She has covered every
inch of exposed walls with brightly colored geometric patterns. These
patterns are carefully constructed, the pinks and oranges spark a smile
and evoke recognition of a familiar image that cannot be placed. As
much as the public face has been carefully constructed for the viewer,
the studio floor holds the indelible signs of production from the last
two years, an unmediated personal expression. These two constructions
provide the viewer with an intimate understanding of Jennison's space.
